Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary’s of the Lake:
As you know, our Diocese of Green Bay has been CELEBRATING OUR 150TH JUBILEE YEAR IN 2018. With grateful joy, Bishop Ricken, twelfth bishop of the Diocese, said: ‘For 150 years, the Catholic Church has taken root in northeastern Wisconsin. Just think of all the disciples of the Lord Jesus who have been nourished by the Good News in this beautiful diocese!’ There have been numerous activities during the Jubilee Year. Below are the four, which directly involved all parishes:
TWELVE SPECIAL LITURGICAL CELEBRATIONS: The newly-restored Cathedral in Green Bay has hosted 12 special Masses throughout the Jubilee Year. These celebrations focus on various groups of the faithful. Representatives from our 2 parishes participated in the June 17, 2018 -Jubilee Mass for Parish Staff, Volunteers, and Ministers.
A TIME CAPSULE ASSEMBLED: A special time capsule was assembled & formally closed after the Chrism Mass on March 27th, 2018, and will remain sealed until our bicentennial year in 2068. The capsule was comprised of small articles from each of the parishes and other Catholic institutions throughout the Diocese. Our St. Mary’s of the Lake sent in a special Parish Bulletin regarding our Centennial Celebration 2018. St. Ambrose offered a brief & updated history of the Parish.
JUBILEE DOCUMENTARY: A special 150th Jubilee Film was created to tell the story of our Catholic presence in northeastern Wisconsin. This film was produced by WFRV Channel 5, in conjunction with the diocesan Communications Department. Inspiring & educational, the film highlights our many efforts to educate, heal, evangelize, and minister through the witness & work of individuals & families, parishes & schools, and other diocesan-affiliated organizations. The Film was shown at our recent Parish Meeting and
was well received.
JUBILEE BOOKS: Two
150th Jubilee Books have
been produced (one for adults
& one for children).
Beautifully bound &
professionally laid out, both
relate the rich history of our
Diocese along with the backgrounds & pictures of individual parishes. These Jubilee Books will be treasured for years to come! These Books have been distributed to all parishes in the Diocese. I’d like to join Bishop Ricken to invite each parish household to obtain a copy of these books to view, to read and to see God’s actions in our Diocese from 1868 until now --with 158 parishes throughout 16 counties in Northeast Wisconsin. THE BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE GATHERING SPACE.
